When you go into a forum, you usually see on the left of each catagory an icon that tells you if there's a new post or no new post or even a locked post. I'm gonna show you how to make an icon that rocks.
1. Make an document that is 50 x 50 pixels with a black background. 2. Ctrl+R so you can see the rules and make a new layer. 3. Click on the top ruler and drag the guide down to 5 pixel mark. Drag another guide down to the last 5 pixel mark. Drag left guide to the right to the 5 pixel mark and another one to the last 5 pixel mark. It should look something like this. 4. Go to your tools pallete and choose Custom Shape Tool. From there, choose the seal shape. 5. Make sure the guides are still on and begin dragging the shape tool from the top left to the bottom right. Click Ctrl+H to hide the guides. It should look something like this. 6. So far so good. Now, double click the layer with th seal. The layer styles should come up. Here is the Blending Options to set for your image. Now it should look something like this. 7. Choose the Eliptical Marquee Tool and make a perfect circle by holding shift and dragging. Make it about the same size of the seal. Drag the eliptical circle and drag it to the top left side. cover about half of the seal. Like this: 8. Create a new layer and choose the gradient tool, make it a linear gradient and choose the foreground to transparent. Make sure the foreground is white. Drag from the top left to as far as you want to the bottom right. It should come out looking like this: I know it doesn't look like anything changed but you gotta look at it closely. Well that's all for that... Optional 9. If you want to change it to a different color other than a white-grey color, just make a new layer before the the gradient layer, select the seal layer. Also change either the foreground or background color to the color you want. 10. Go to Select > Load Selection. Click Ok and the seal should then be selected. Go back to that new layer and press Ctrl+Backspace. If it doesn't change into the color you wanted, press Alt+Backspace. It should come out like this, I did a blue color (#0099FF): 11. Now I know we don't want a white stroke so double click the layer and bring up the layer style. Just apply this stroke effect: Click ok and that should be there. This is what you should get. Optional #2 12. Hide the seal and leave the gradient layer. This should be your cool effect. Leave some feedback. 0 Comments
