"Punk" Effect

If you walk into hot topic, there is no doubt you'll see a "punk" shirt. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

It's not black and white but you get the idea. Well I'm gonna show you how to get that effect.

With my wife's permission, I shall use one of her pics as an example. You can copy this or use your own.



1. make a new document. The measurements should be right when making a new document cause when you copy an image, photoshop will copy the width and height. Click ok and paste the image inside the document.

2. Go to Image > Adjustments > Threshold. The image should then turn black and white but look crappy. For this image, put the settings on 86. But if you're using your own, set it for whatever you want it to be. Here's the effect I got.



That's that.

Extra

I showed this to my wife and she wanted color and eliminate her "fatness". So here we go.

3. Right where her chin is at, we're gonna use the brush tool with 100% opacity and paint those two lines. Here's where I am talking about.



Also we're gonna get rid of the date.

Just use black with the brush tool to cover it up.



4. We're gonna color it in now. The wifes favorite color, pink. So we'll work with that. Make a new layer and choose your favorite color. press Ctrl+Backspace. If your color doesn't come up, choose Alt+Backspace. Either one should bring up your color.



That's that..... or is it?

Lets make her eyes and that heart white.

5. We'll begin with the heart. While on the layer with the color Use the marquee tool and select around the heart. Something like this will do.



Just backspace and it should turn white. It'll do that cause well.. there's no color on there. It's just the black and white image behind the color.

6. Now the eyes. Select the Magic Wand tool and select the whites of the eye. Hold shift and click to select all the "white".



Back space that as well.

Slap some text on there and this is what you should get.
